Frequently Asked Questions

What does Tabworkx do?

Tabworkx is a chrome browser extension that allows you to better manage your browser tabs so that you avoid the problem of tabs overload.  You can organize your tabs into groupings by saving a workspace of tabs under a specific name and switch between groupings by selecting those names.  For example, if you are doing research on a trip to Greece, you can open a series of tabs relating to your trip and save them under a window named “Greece trip”.  As you add relevant tabs and remove irrelevant ones, you can always save the current state of your window and revisit it when you want to continue your research.

What does the Tab Icons section do?

The Icons section will print an image of every icon available that relates to the tabs that are open.  If you select one of those icons, the tab with the domain that is linked to the icon will move to the far left and open automatically.  If you have a series of tabs that are part of the same domain, then those tabs will automatically be grouped, and moved to the far left.  The first tab of the tab grouping will automatically open.

How do I save the workspace I am working on?

Simply enter a name in the “New workspace name” text box and press enter.  A representation of the saved workspace should appear automatically in the “Saved Workspaces” section below.  Anytime you want to open that set of tabs, simply click on the button with the name of that saved window.

How can I opt to ignore a domain?

Simply right click anywhere on the page and choose “Ignore this domain” from the context menu.  The tab will automatically close and be added to the ignore lit, which you can revisit any time by clicking on the “Ignored Domains” toggle.  Once a domain is added to the ignore list, no tabs that contain that domain and subdomain will ever be added to a workspace.

How can I switch between different workspaces of tabs?

The currently open set of tabs will have an orange double arrow marked by its name.  If none of the names in the Saved Workspaces section has this double arrow, then no saved workspace is currently open.  Simply click on the desired workspace, and the current collection of tabs will automatically be saved to your current workspace before all the tabs are closed and the newly selected desired workspace and all its tabs are automatically reopened.

Is the data shared or stored with you ?

No, the data resides and always remains in your browser.  The extension is a front end tool without a backend system.  This means that all the data remains in your browser’s storage and no information exchange takes place with any third party or external server.

What are pinned tabs?

In the saved workspace, there are 2 types of tabs.  Pinned tabs and new tabs.  New tabs will change based on whether you open said tabs or close them from the browser.  Pinned tabs remain as part of the workspace regardless of whether you close them or not.  So if you typically start your browsing session with a specific set of tabs that you use regularly, make sure they are added to the pinned tabs column so they will always be there when you switch into that workspace.

What is Advanced mode and how do I turn it on?

You can click on the options menu in the upper right corner to enable Advanced mode.  Advanced mode will represent all your workspace tabs as a tree structure that you can easily navigate and filter against.
